📖 5-minute read
Labelling takes a behaviour or event and turns it into an identity. 'I made a mistake' becomes 'I'm an idiot'. 'I lost my temper' becomes 'I'm a bad person'.
Once the label sticks, everything gets filtered through it. It becomes very hard to see anything that contradicts it — and easy to see anything that confirms it.
The skill: separate the doing from the being. 'I did X' or 'X happened' is workable. 'I am X' is a story your mind is telling — and it's rarely accurate.
