👁️ Observe

Notice what's here without adding a story.

📖 5-minute read

Observing is paying attention to what's actually happening — inside you and around you — without labelling, judging, or trying to change it. It's the first mindfulness skill because everything else builds on it.

Most of us jump straight to interpretation. 'She looked at me like that — she must be angry.' Observing pulls you back a step: what did you actually see? A face. A tone. A feeling in your chest.

Practise with something small. Look at your hand. Feel the chair under you. Notice a sound. Don't describe it, don't judge it — just let it register. This muscle strengthens quickly with use.
