When you can't stop worrying about something, it's often because the mind is trying to solve a problem but doesn't have a process. Structured problem solving gives it one.
The five steps: 1) Define the problem specifically. 2) Brainstorm every possible solution (no filter). 3) Weigh pros and cons of the top three. 4) Choose one and plan the first step. 5) Do it, then review.
The key is 'specifically'. 'I'm stressed at work' isn't solvable. 'I have three tasks due Friday and don't know which to start' is. Vague problems keep worry alive; specific ones can be solved.
