🔄 Opposite Action

When the emotion doesn't fit — act opposite, all in.

📖 5-minute read

Every emotion comes with an urge: fear wants you to hide, anger wants you to attack, shame wants you to disappear. When the emotion fits the facts, follow the urge. When it doesn't, act the opposite — with your whole self.

The 'with your whole self' part matters. If shame is telling you to hide and you decide it doesn't fit, you don't half-connect while frowning. You warmly connect, body language and all. Half-hearted opposite action doesn't shift the emotion.

Opposite action rewires. Each time you do the opposite of an emotion that doesn't fit, the emotion loses grip. Over months, the pattern changes.
