- Recovery Trauma™ is a trauma-informed wellbeing, educational, self-help, community and therapist-discovery platform for adults. It brings together grounding, breathing, meditation, somatic and wellbeing practices, yoga, sleep support, sounds, journals (including the Trigger Journal, Dream Journal and Music Journal), Inner Child exercises, Shadow Work, EFT, the Emotion Wheel, educational content, self-reflective assessments, community, events and seminars, and therapist discovery. Recovery Trauma™ does not provide therapy, diagnosis, medical treatment, clinical care, crisis intervention or emergency services.
- No. Recovery Trauma™ provides educational resources, self-help tools, wellbeing exercises, community features and therapist discovery. It is not therapy, counselling, psychotherapy, medical treatment, mental-health treatment, diagnosis, clinical care or crisis intervention. Using Recovery Trauma™ does not create a therapist-client, counsellor-client, doctor-patient or healthcare-professional relationship with Recovery Trauma™ or Jana Burkhardt.
- Recovery Trauma™ is for adults aged 18 and over who want to better understand themselves, their experiences, emotions, relationships and nervous system. Members may be exploring trauma, difficult childhood experiences, relationship wounds, attachment patterns, emotional triggers, stress, nervous-system regulation, self-reflection, personal growth or general emotional wellbeing. You can explore resources at your own pace, and no diagnosis is required to use Recovery Trauma™.
- No. Recovery Trauma™ can complement appropriate professional support, but it does not replace medical care, therapy, counselling, psychotherapy, psychiatric care or other professional healthcare.
- Yes. Recovery Trauma™ is intended for adults aged 18 and over. This applies to the website, the iOS app, the community and events.
🚨 Need Immediate Help?
Recovery Trauma™ is not a crisis service.
If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health crisis, or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out for support right now.

- Your wellbeing comes first. You can pause or stop any exercise or activity at any time. You can take a break, choose a gentler activity, use Ground Me Now, return later, or seek appropriate professional support where you need it. There is no requirement to complete an activity. Take what feels helpful and leave what doesn't.
- Ground Me Now is a gentle button available at the bottom of every page. Tap it any time you'd like to slow down — it opens a small set of trauma-informed regulation tools: box breathing, 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, safe-place visualisation, body scan and hand on heart. Ground Me Now is a wellbeing tool, not a crisis or emergency service.
- No. Recovery Trauma™ assessments, questionnaires, self-checks and scores are intended for educational and self-reflective purposes only. They are not diagnoses, clinical assessments, medical assessments or psychological evaluations. If you are concerned about your health or wellbeing, please speak with a qualified professional.
- Yes. Recovery Trauma™ is available at www.recoverytrauma.com and, where available, through the Recovery Trauma™ iOS app.
- No. Please sign into the app using the same Recovery Trauma™ account you already use. One Recovery Trauma™ account is your single member identity across the website and the app — please don't create a second account, as your membership, journals and saved work belong to the original one.
- Yes. Sign into the iOS app with the same email address and password you use on the website, and the app recognises your existing active membership and unlocks member content. You do not need to buy anything again inside the app to access a membership that is already active.
- Yes. Your membership belongs to your Recovery Trauma™ account, not to one device, so you can keep using the website, the app, or both.
- Core member content is connected to the same Recovery Trauma™ service and account, so your journals, saved items and membership are the same in both places. Some functionality differs because the app includes app-specific features such as native navigation, optional push notifications and background audio, and some website-only functionality is not shown in the app.
- Notifications are optional. They are used for gentle reminders and updates you have chosen — for example an event you have booked or a reply in the community. You can say no at first launch and still use everything else, and you can change your mind at any time in iPhone Settings → Notifications → Recovery Trauma™.
- Only when you choose to add an image — for example a profile picture, an image in a journal entry, or a photo in a community post. The request appears at the moment you tap to add a photo, never in the background, and you can decline and continue using the app.
- Only when you choose to record a private voice note in your journal — for example recording a dream by voice. If you never use voice recording, the app never needs your microphone.
- Your journey has four steps: (1) Create your account. (2) Confirm your email address. (3) Become a Member. (4) Access Recovery Trauma™. Creating an account and confirming your email are free and do not unlock member content. Full access begins once your membership is active — whether you joined on the website or, where available, through the App Store.
- Registering creates your account and lets you confirm your email — steps 1 and 2 of 4. Member content unlocks once your membership is active. If you have already completed a purchase and still can't get in, check Profile → My Membership first and then contact info@recoverytrauma.com.
- Go to Profile → My Membership. It shows your access status (for example 'Active until 3 October 2026'), your plan, your billing provider and your renewal status. You'll also have received a confirmation email from Recovery Trauma™ and a receipt from the payment provider.
- Confirming your email helps keep your account secure and ensures we can contact you with important information about your membership. It also prevents someone else from creating an account using your email address.
- Please check your Inbox, Spam, Junk, Promotions and Updates folders. If you still can't find it, use Resend Confirmation Email on the login page or contact info@recoverytrauma.com.
- Yes. Use the Resend Confirmation Email option on the login page.
- Then you don't need to confirm it again. Simply sign in with your email address and password.
- On the login screen, tap 'Forgot password'. Enter the email you signed up with and we'll send a secure reset link, valid for one hour. If you don't see it, please check your spam folder. If you're still stuck, email info@recoverytrauma.com.
- A few gentle things to check: 1) Make sure you're using the same email you signed up with. 2) Reset your password if you're unsure. 3) Try clearing your browser cache or opening a private window, or sign out and back in on the app. If you're experiencing difficulties, please contact our support team at info@recoverytrauma.com. We'll do our best to help and work with you to find a solution.
- Please make sure you're signing in with the same email address you used when you joined. If you're still having problems, contact info@recoverytrauma.com and we'll look into it with you.
- Sign in with the same email address and password. Your membership travels with your account across devices, the website and the app.
- Go to Profile → Account settings. You'll be asked to confirm your new address through a verification link. If you'd like help, email info@recoverytrauma.com.
- Go to Profile → Privacy & Data → Delete your account. Deletion permanently removes your profile, journal and dream entries, check-ins, saved items and community activity, though a small number of records may be kept where the law requires. Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate actions — see 'Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?' before you delete.
- Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate actions. If you want to stop future billing, cancel your active subscription through the provider that manages it. For a website subscription, cancel through Profile → Membership → Membership & Billing (Stripe or PayPal). For an Apple subscription, cancel through Apple Subscriptions in your iPhone Settings. The deletion flow checks your membership and tells you which applies to you before anything is deleted.
- Use the Contact Us page or email info@recoverytrauma.com. Please don't send passwords, full card numbers or sensitive information you don't need to share — we never need your password. We read every message and reply as soon as we reasonably can.
- Membership gives you access to the full Recovery Trauma™ platform — the practices, journals, educational content, community and events — for as long as your membership remains active, on both the website and the app.
- Current membership options and prices are shown before you purchase. Prices may vary according to membership duration, promotional or founding plans, the platform you purchase on, and applicable taxes or currency. You will always see the applicable price and billing frequency before confirming a purchase.
- If you are on a founding, promotional or legacy plan, the conditions of that plan will apply. Any material subscription price changes will be communicated as required by applicable law and the relevant payment provider's rules.
- Go to Profile → My Membership. Your billing provider is shown there: Stripe, PayPal or Apple App Store. That tells you where the subscription is managed. If the provider can't be identified, contact info@recoverytrauma.com and we'll check it for you.
- If you joined through www.recoverytrauma.com, manage or cancel your subscription in Profile → Membership → Membership & Billing. Your subscription is processed through Stripe or PayPal, and cancelling there stops the future recurring payments on either provider — you don't need to cancel separately in PayPal as well. After cancellation, your access normally continues until the end of the current paid period. If anything doesn't work as described, contact info@recoverytrauma.com.
- If you purchased Recovery Trauma™ through Apple's App Store, the subscription is managed through your Apple account. On iPhone: 1) Open Settings. 2) Tap your name / Apple ID. 3) Tap Subscriptions. 4) Select Recovery Trauma™. 5) Tap Cancel Subscription. The subscription normally stays active until the end of the current paid Apple period. Recovery Trauma™ cannot directly cancel an Apple-managed subscription on your behalf.
- No. Cancelling stops the future renewal, not the time you have already paid for. Your My Membership screen separates the two: access status (for example 'Active until 3 October 2026') and renewal status (for example 'Cancelled — will not renew'). Access ends at the paid-through date, and this works the same way for Stripe, PayPal and Apple.
- On the website, major debit and credit cards through Stripe, and PayPal. Available methods may vary by country. Where a subscription is purchased through the App Store, it is processed by Apple using the payment method associated with your Apple account.
- Payments are handled by the applicable payment provider — Stripe, PayPal or Apple — and Recovery Trauma™ does not receive or store your full card details. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and no online service can promise absolute security.
- For website purchases, Stripe or PayPal send a transaction confirmation or receipt to the email connected to your payment account, and Recovery Trauma™ sends a confirmation email too. For App Store purchases, Apple provides the purchase and subscription records in your Apple account.
- For a website subscription, Stripe or PayPal may retry the payment or ask you to update your payment details, following their own process. For an Apple subscription, Apple handles billing problems through your Apple account. Your My Membership screen shows which provider applies to you. If the issue continues, contact info@recoverytrauma.com.
- For a website subscription, update it in Profile → Membership → Membership & Billing, which opens the appropriate Stripe or PayPal management. For an Apple subscription, update the payment details in your Apple account — Recovery Trauma™ does not control the payment method Apple uses.
- How a refund is handled depends on where you purchased. For a website membership, contact info@recoverytrauma.com — requests are reviewed individually, in line with our Terms of Service and your applicable consumer rights. For an App Store purchase, refunds are requested from Apple through Apple's own refund process and are subject to Apple's rules; Recovery Trauma™ cannot refund an Apple transaction directly. Nothing here removes rights you have under law.
- If you cancelled but your paid period hasn't ended yet, nothing is needed — your access continues until the expiry date. If your membership has already ended: for a website membership, choose an available plan on the Membership page; for an Apple subscription, resubscribe through Apple's subscription system. Your journals, progress and saved tools are kept safely for you.
- That's exactly what we design against. Recovery Trauma™ account = one member identity, and your membership entitlement decides your access no matter which device you use. If your membership is already active, the app recognises it and shows 'Your Membership is Active' rather than asking you to buy again, and the website recognises an active membership bought elsewhere in the same way. If you ever see a purchase prompt while your membership is active, please stop and email info@recoverytrauma.com before paying.
- First, make sure you're signed into the correct Recovery Trauma™ account — the same email you used before. Then use Restore Purchases where it is offered in the app, and sign in again. If the Apple purchase is valid but your access is still missing, contact info@recoverytrauma.com with the Apple email used for the purchase and we'll link it up.
- Therapist listing options and prices are shown on the therapist application page before you apply, so you always see the current price and billing frequency before confirming.
- Your account stays registered, but your membership won't be activated. You can return and complete it at any time — nothing you've already saved is lost.
- No problem. Return to the membership page and start checkout again. If your previous session expired, a new secure checkout session is created automatically.
- Yes. Most content is available on demand, so you can practise at your own pace, whenever feels right for you.
- Some optional features use AI — for example an AI-supported reflection on a journal or dream entry. These are opt-in: you are asked for consent before the first AI reflection, and declining still saves your entry normally. You can use Recovery Trauma™ fully without using any AI feature.
- No. AI-generated information may be inaccurate or incomplete and must not be relied upon for diagnosis, treatment, medication decisions, clinical advice, crisis intervention or emergency support. AI is not a therapist. Please see our AI Disclaimer and Full Disclaimer for details.
- Email preferences are in your profile, where you can choose which Recovery Trauma™ emails you receive. In the iOS app, notifications are optional and controlled by you in iPhone Settings → Notifications → Recovery Trauma™. You can turn everything off and still use the platform.
- Anything still in progress is clearly marked 'Coming Soon'. We'd rather be honest about what's ready than hide a missing feature behind a placeholder.
- Your private journal entries and reflections are not visible to other members and are designed as private account features. Our Privacy Policy explains how entries are stored and secured, who may access data and when, how long it is kept, which service providers are involved, and how deletion works. Recovery Trauma™ does not continuously monitor private journals for crisis situations, so please don't use a journal as a way of reaching urgent support.
- Journal entries are saved to your account when you save them, and they stay with your Recovery Trauma™ account across the website and the app. Saving needs an internet connection.
- Yes. Go to Profile → Privacy & Data → Export my data to download a copy of your profile, journal and dream entries, check-ins, community activity, saved exercises and preferences.
- Please see our full Community Guidelines page. In short: share from your own experience, be kind and respectful, avoid graphic trauma detail, don't diagnose others, and use crisis resources for urgent support rather than the community feed.
- Every community post has a report option. Tap it, tell us briefly what's wrong, and the report goes to the Platform Administrator for review. Reports are not monitored around the clock, so please use emergency or crisis services for anything urgent.
- Yes. You can block a member from their post, and you won't see their posts or comments afterwards. You can see and undo your blocks in Profile → Privacy & Data → Blocked members.
- No. Community members share personal experiences and peer support. Community posts should not be treated as professional medical, psychological or therapeutic advice.
- No. Recovery Trauma™ does not provide therapy. The directory helps you discover independent practitioners; any therapy takes place between you and that practitioner.
- Yes, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Listed therapists are independent practitioners and are not employed by Recovery Trauma™.
- We carry out administrative checks on the documents a therapist provides as part of their application — for example identity, stated qualifications, registration and insurance details. This is an administrative check, not clinical approval, clinical supervision or an assessment of therapeutic suitability.
- Independent therapists remain responsible for their own professional practice, qualifications, registration, insurance, clinical decisions, client care and safeguarding.
- Please contact info@recoverytrauma.com. Directory concerns are reviewed by the Platform Administrator and, where appropriate, escalated to the Founder & Product Compliance Lead — this can result in a listing being paused or removed. Professional or clinical concerns may also need to be raised with the therapist's professional body or regulator, which handles matters of professional conduct.
- Book the event from the Events page while signed in. The joining link appears on the event and is sent to you by email. If you've booked and can't see a link, contact info@recoverytrauma.com.
- Community and support sessions are not recorded, to protect participants' privacy and emotional safety. Educational workshops may sometimes be recorded, and where that happens participants are told beforehand and participant privacy is protected.
- If the session wasn't recorded — which is the case for community and support sessions — there is no recording available. Where we can, we'll offer session materials, another session, or related resources instead. Just email info@recoverytrauma.com.
- No. Events and seminars are educational and wellbeing sessions unless explicitly stated otherwise. They are not group therapy, and we ask everyone to respect other participants' privacy.
- Please try refreshing the page, using a different browser, clearing your browser cache, or trying another device. If the issue continues, contact info@recoverytrauma.com and tell us what you were doing when it happened.
- A few things to try, in order: check your internet connection; close and reopen the app; sign out and back in; update the app and your iPhone software; restart your device; check the relevant permissions in iPhone Settings; and try the same thing on the website to see whether it's app-specific. If it continues, email info@recoverytrauma.com with what you tried.
- If a page shows a spinner for more than a few seconds, a 'Try again' option normally appears — use that first. Otherwise: refresh the page or restart the app, sign out and back in, check your internet connection, make sure your browser or app is up to date, and try another supported browser if you're on the website. If it happens repeatedly, tell us which page it was at info@recoverytrauma.com so we can look at it properly.
- Normal page navigation should open at the top of the new page. Links that intentionally point at a specific section will open directly at that section, which is expected. If normal navigation keeps opening part-way down a page, please report it at info@recoverytrauma.com with the page name.
- Recovery Trauma™ works on recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox — on desktop, tablet and mobile — plus the iOS app where available. For the best experience, use a browser updated within the last 12 months.
- Not fully. Some content may still display briefly from your device's cache, but an internet connection is needed for signing in, membership verification, community, saving and syncing your journals, audio streaming, therapist information and updated content.
- A few gentle checks: 1) Make sure your device isn't on silent. 2) Tap play once — most browsers wait for a tap before allowing audio. 3) Try headphones. 4) Refresh the page or reopen the app if the player feels stuck. Only one audio track plays at a time across Sounds, Meditations, Grounding and Breathing, so starting one will stop another. If you're experiencing difficulties, please contact our support team at info@recoverytrauma.com. We'll do our best to help and work with you to find a solution.
- The most common reasons are: your email hasn't been confirmed yet, your membership isn't active, or you're signed out. Sign in and check Profile → My Membership, which shows your access status and renewal status. If it says active and content is still locked, email info@recoverytrauma.com.
