Terms of Service

The agreement between you and RECOVERY TRAUMA LTD for the Recovery Trauma™ website, app, membership and related services.

Last updated: 13 September 2026

1. Who these Terms are with

These Terms are an agreement between you and RECOVERY TRAUMA LTD (Company No. 16340718), registered in England and Wales. “Recovery Trauma™” is the trading and platform name of RECOVERY TRAUMA LTD. “We”, “us” and “our” mean the company; “you” means the person using the platform.

These Terms govern use of the Recovery Trauma™ website, the Recovery Trauma™ mobile app, membership services, community features, journals and wellbeing tools, events, the therapist directory and any other Recovery Trauma™ service.

By creating an account, purchasing a membership or pass, accessing member services, or otherwise using Recovery Trauma™, you agree to these Terms and to any policies expressly incorporated into them. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

The following are incorporated into these Terms by reference: Política de privacidad, Community Guidelines, Disclaimer, AI Disclaimer and Política de Cookies.

2. What Recovery Trauma™ is — and is not

Recovery Trauma™ is a trauma-informed wellbeing, educational, self-help, community and therapist-discovery platform.

Recovery Trauma™ is not:

  • a therapy practice
  • a counselling provider
  • a psychotherapy service
  • a medical or healthcare provider
  • a diagnostic service
  • a crisis service or an emergency service

Nothing provided through Recovery Trauma™ creates a therapist–client, counsellor–client, doctor–patient or other healthcare-professional relationship between you and Recovery Trauma™, RECOVERY TRAUMA LTD or Jana Burkhardt.

3. Wellbeing disclaimer

Recovery Trauma™ provides:

  • educational information and written content
  • guided wellbeing activities and audio
  • journals and reflective exercises
  • grounding, breathing, meditation and somatic wellbeing practices
  • self-reflection questionnaires and self-assessment tools
  • community functionality
  • events and seminars
  • therapist discovery

These resources are intended for general educational and wellbeing purposes. They do not provide diagnosis, treatment, clinical assessment, medical advice, psychological advice, therapy, counselling, psychotherapy or crisis intervention.

You remain responsible for deciding whether a particular activity is appropriate for you, and for stopping if it does not feel right. If you have concerns about your physical or mental health, please seek appropriate professional advice.

4. Emergencies and crisis

Recovery Trauma™ is not monitored or operated as a real-time emergency or crisis service. Messages, posts, journal entries and reports are not watched continuously.

Please do not rely on community posts, reports, journals, assessments, support messages, seminars, the therapist directory or any AI feature for urgent or emergency assistance.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or needs urgent medical or mental-health help, contact the emergency or crisis services in your location. Our Crisis Support page lists services you can contact directly.

We do not promise that we will identify or respond to every indication of crisis. Where we do become aware of a serious risk, we follow our escalation pathway, which is a platform-governance process and not clinical care.

5. Age requirement

Recovery Trauma™ is intended for adults aged 18 and over. You must be at least 18 to create an account or use member-only services.

We do not knowingly permit individuals under 18 to maintain member accounts. If we become aware that an account belongs to a person under the minimum age, we may suspend or close the account and handle associated personal data in accordance with our Política de privacidad and applicable law.

6. Your account

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • provide accurate information and keep it up to date
  • keep your sign-in details secure and not share them
  • not share or transfer your account where that is prohibited
  • tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access to your account
  • take reasonable responsibility for activity carried out through your account

We may apply reasonable security controls, such as password requirements, email verification, session handling and sign-in protections. We may add further controls over time. We do not claim that any specific security feature is available unless it is offered in your account settings.

7. Membership and payment

Some Recovery Trauma™ content is free, and some is available only to members. We may offer different membership plans and billing periods, and we may also offer one-off passes, complimentary access and promotional offers from time to time.

Before you purchase, the checkout will show you:

  • the price payable, including any applicable taxes
  • the billing frequency or access period
  • whether the purchase renews automatically

Recurring memberships renew automatically at the end of each paid period, at the price and frequency of the plan you purchased, until you cancel future renewal. One-off passes do not renew — access ends automatically at the end of the pass period.

Payments are taken by our payment providers. Your right to cancel future renewals and the exact steps depend on the provider used — see section 8.

8. Where you bought your membership

Memberships bought on the website

Website memberships are processed by our website payment providers (currently card payments and PayPal). You can manage or cancel future renewal from My Membership → Membership & Billing, or, for PayPal, also from the automatic payments section of your PayPal account.

Memberships bought through the Apple App Store

Recovery Trauma™ does not currently sell memberships inside the iOS app. If we offer Apple in-app subscriptions in future, then for those purchases:

  • Apple processes the transaction, not Recovery Trauma™
  • renewal and cancellation are managed in your Apple account or App Store subscription settings
  • Apple's billing and refund terms apply, and refund requests are made to Apple

We cannot cancel or refund an Apple subscription on your behalf, and website billing instructions do not apply to Apple purchases.

9. Cancelling a membership

Cancelling a recurring membership stops future renewals. Unless the plan or provider says otherwise, your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then stops.

Cancelling a subscription and deleting your account are two different things. Deleting your Recovery Trauma™ account does not automatically cancel a subscription held with a payment provider. Our account-deletion flow will ask you to cancel an active subscription first. See section 30 and our Política de privacidad.

10. Your cancellation rights for digital content

If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you normally have a 14-day right to cancel a purchase made at a distance.

Where you ask for immediate access to digital content or services and we begin supplying them within the cancellation period, the law requires us to obtain your express agreement to that immediate supply, together with your acknowledgement of how it affects your cancellation right. Where we have obtained that agreement and acknowledgement, your right to cancel a fully supplied digital purchase may be lost or reduced accordingly.

Where we have not obtained it, your statutory cancellation right is unaffected, and nothing on this page removes it. If you believe you are entitled to cancel, email info@recoverytrauma.com and we will deal with your request under the law that applies to you, not only under this page.

We will send confirmation of your purchase to the email address on your account. Payment receipts are also issued by the payment provider.

11. Refunds

Except where required by applicable law or by the applicable payment provider's terms, payments for subscription periods already supplied are generally not refundable solely because you no longer wish to use the service. This does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

  • Website purchases — refund requests are assessed by Recovery Trauma™ together with the payment provider. We also operate a goodwill review window described in our Help centre.
  • Apple purchases — if Apple subscriptions are offered in future, refund requests for them are handled by Apple under Apple's terms.
  • Statutory rights — the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights where digital content or a service is faulty, not as described, or not carried out with reasonable care and skill. Nothing here limits those rights.

To raise a refund or quality issue with us, email info@recoverytrauma.com.

12. Prices and price changes

Prices are shown before you purchase and include, or state, any applicable taxes. Promotional, founding or legacy pricing applies only as described in the offer that was shown to you at the time.

We may change our prices. For an existing recurring membership, any change to the renewal price will be communicated and applied in accordance with applicable law and the rules of the payment provider handling your subscription, and you will be able to cancel future renewal if you do not want to continue at the new price. Unless we say so explicitly in an offer, we do not guarantee that a price will stay the same permanently.

13. Community rules

Community areas are shared spaces. You must not post content that is abusive, harassing, threatening, hateful, exploitative, fraudulent, illegal, sexually exploitative, designed to facilitate harm, infringing of another person's rights, malicious, spam, or otherwise dangerous.

Talking about your experience is not the same as posting prohibited content. Members may discuss sexual abuse, sexual trauma, sexual health and trauma-related sexuality as part of genuine recovery and wellbeing discussion. What is prohibited is pornographic, sexually explicit, exploitative, harassing or sexually inappropriate content directed at other members.

Self-harm and suicide

Supportive, recovery-focused discussion of self-harm, suicidal thoughts and trauma is allowed, subject to our Community Guidelines and moderation. What is prohibited is content that encourages or glorifies self-harm or suicide, gives dangerous instructions or methods, encourages violence, or targets or pressures vulnerable members.

Use of community functionality is also subject to the Recovery Trauma™ Community Guidelines, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.

14. Reporting, blocking and moderation

Every post and comment in the community can be reported, and you can block another member at any time from their post or comment. Blocked members can be unblocked again from your account settings.

We aim to review reports promptly and may take action depending on the nature, severity and circumstances of the report. Action may include removing content, warning a member, restricting features, or suspending or closing an account.

Urgent or high-risk reports may be escalated under our documented escalation pathway. We do not guarantee a fixed response time for every report.

15. Your content and the licence you give us

You keep ownership of the content you create — journals, reflections, dream entries, assessment answers, artwork, community posts and comments, and anything else you write or upload.

To operate the platform, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, host, back up, transmit, process and display your content, solely as necessary to provide the service to you and to run the platform. This licence ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies that remain temporarily in routine backups or that we must keep for legal reasons.

Private content

Journals, reflections, dream entries and assessment answers are private to your account. The licence above does not give us ownership of them, and we do not publish them, share them with other members, or use them to advertise or to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy for the limited circumstances in which an authorised administrator can technically access records.

Content you choose to share

Where you intentionally post content into a shared area, you also grant us the licence needed to display it to the audience for that feature, and to moderate it. Other members may see it. Please do not post anything you would not want other members to read.

16. Your responsibilities for content

You must only upload or share content you have the right to use. You must not post:

  • content that infringes copyright or other rights
  • content that impersonates another person
  • another person's private or confidential information without proper authority
  • malicious code or harmful files
  • illegal material

We may remove content where reasonably necessary for legal, safety, policy or platform reasons.

17. Intellectual property

Except for user content and third-party materials, intellectual property in Recovery Trauma™ content and branding is owned by or licensed to RECOVERY TRAUMA LTD. This includes, where applicable, our branding and trade marks, original written content, platform design, exercises, educational material, audio, graphics, video and software created for the platform.

“Recovery Trauma™” and “Healing Beyond Survival Mode™” are our marks and must not be used without permission.

Your membership gives you a personal, non-transferable right to access and use member content for your own personal wellbeing. It does not allow you to copy, republish, resell, distribute or use our content commercially without our written permission.

18. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • attempt unauthorised access to the platform, other accounts or our systems
  • circumvent security, access controls or membership gating
  • reverse engineer the platform, except to the extent this cannot lawfully be prohibited
  • scrape or harvest content or data at abusive scale
  • upload malware or run automated abuse against the service
  • commit fraud, including payment or chargeback abuse
  • sell, rent or transfer your account
  • impersonate another person, member or therapist
  • harass, intimidate or target other members
  • interfere with the operation, availability or integrity of the platform
  • use platform content commercially without our authorisation

19. AI features

Some optional features use AI — for example journal and dream reflections, the in-app guide and support chat, voice transcription and guided audio narration. Not all content on Recovery Trauma™ is AI-generated; most written content is created by us.

  • AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable for your situation.
  • It is informational and educational only, and is not professional advice.
  • It does not diagnose, assess or treat, and must not be relied upon for diagnosis or treatment.
  • Please use your own judgment and, where relevant, seek professional advice.
  • Do not submit emergencies or crisis situations to AI features expecting urgent intervention — use the emergency services described in section 4.

How AI features process your information is explained in our Política de privacidad and AI Disclaimer.

20. Assessments, quizzes and results

Any assessments, questionnaires, scores, results or summaries offered through Recovery Trauma™ are educational and self-reflective only.

  • They are not diagnostic tools.
  • They are not medical or psychological evaluations.
  • They are not a substitute for professional assessment.
  • A score or result must not be relied upon to diagnose or rule out any condition.

21. Therapist directory

Recovery Trauma™ offers therapist discovery. Therapists listed in the directory are independent practitioners.

  • Recovery Trauma™ does not provide the therapy and is not a party to any therapy agreement you enter into.
  • A listing does not create an employment, partnership or agency relationship unless separately agreed in writing.
  • We may carry out administrative verification of documentation a therapist submits, such as qualifications, registration and insurance. This is administrative only.
  • Verification is not clinical supervision, endorsement or a guarantee of competence, suitability or outcome.
  • You are responsible for deciding whether a particular therapist is appropriate for you, and for your own due diligence.
  • Therapists remain responsible for their own licences, registration, professional obligations, clinical decisions and the services they provide.

Concerns about a listed therapist can be raised with us and will be handled under our platform procedures, including the escalation pathway. We are not a regulator, and we do not replace professional regulators, licensing bodies or complaints schemes, which you may also contact directly.

22. Events and seminars

We run educational and wellbeing sessions, seminars and workshops, some online.

  • Attending an event does not create a therapeutic relationship with Recovery Trauma™ or the host.
  • Events are not group therapy, unless a session is explicitly provided by an appropriately qualified independent provider and clearly described as such.
  • Event dates, times, hosts and content may change, and events may be cancelled or rescheduled.
  • Joining details may be sent separately, usually by email, to the address on your account.
  • You must respect other participants' privacy — do not record, screenshot or share what others disclose.

Additional rules for a particular session, including whether it is recorded, are given with that event.

23. Third-party services

Recovery Trauma™ relies on third-party providers for services such as hosting and databases, payments, authentication, email delivery, app distribution, notifications, music search, AI processing, audio transcription, video meetings and technical monitoring.

Those services are provided under the third party's own terms and privacy policies. We choose providers carefully, but we are not responsible for the acts, omissions or outages of third parties beyond what applicable law requires. The providers we use are listed in our Política de privacidad.

24. Availability of the platform

We aim to keep Recovery Trauma™ available and working well, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. Access may be unavailable from time to time because of maintenance, bugs, provider outages, security measures, updates, technical problems or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in this section excludes obligations we owe you under consumer law, including that a paid digital service must be supplied with reasonable care and skill.

25. Changes to features

We may add, modify, improve, replace or retire features over time as the platform develops.

Where a change materially affects a paid service you have purchased, we will handle it reasonably and in accordance with applicable law, which may include giving you notice and, where appropriate, the ability to cancel.

26. Suspension and termination by us

We may suspend, restrict or terminate an account where reasonably necessary, including for:

  • serious or repeated breaches of these Terms or the Community Guidelines
  • abuse or harassment of other members or of our team
  • fraud, including payment fraud or chargeback abuse
  • security threats or attempts to circumvent platform controls
  • illegal activity
  • conduct that creates a risk to other users

Where there is a serious safety, security or legal issue, action may be immediate. We will act proportionately, but we cannot promise advance warning in every case. Where lawful and appropriate, we will explain the reason and how you can respond.

27. Closing your own account

You can delete your account yourself from Account → Privacy & Data, on the website and inside the app, or by emailing us.

Account deletion is not the same as:

  • cancelling a subscription — you cancel that with the payment provider or in My Membership, and our deletion flow asks you to do this first
  • obtaining a refund — refunds are handled under section 11
  • erasing every record — we must keep certain financial and safeguarding records, as explained in the Privacy Policy

Deletion of your content is permanent and cannot be reversed.

28. No guarantee of outcomes

Recovery Trauma™ does not guarantee:

  • recovery, healing or symptom reduction
  • any particular mental-health or therapeutic outcome
  • that a particular activity is suitable for every person
  • the availability of any particular therapist, host or event
  • any specific result from an assessment or wellbeing exercise

Results vary between people. Everything here is offered as support and education, at your own pace and your own discretion.

29. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Subject to that:

  • we provide educational and wellbeing resources, and we do not guarantee particular outcomes from using them
  • you are responsible for your own decisions about which activities to use and how you use them
  • independent therapists are responsible for the services they provide to you
  • third-party providers are responsible for their own services
  • we are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable at the time you agreed to these Terms, or for loss arising from your own breach of these Terms

If you are using Recovery Trauma™ for business purposes, we are not liable for loss of profit, business, goodwill or data arising from that use.

30. Your statutory rights

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes rights that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including your consumer rights. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

31. Privacy

Our Política de privacidad explains what personal information we collect, why we process it, the lawful bases we rely on, who we share information with, how long we keep it, international transfers, and your rights — including how to access, correct or delete your information and how to complain.

We do not sell your personal information. We are not a healthcare provider, and we do not create medical records.

32. App store terms

Where you download the Recovery Trauma™ app from an app store, your licence to use the app is governed by that store's standard end-user licence agreement, in addition to these Terms. For iOS, Apple's standard licensed application end user licence agreement applies unless a custom agreement is provided through the App Store. These Terms are not a replacement for it.

The app store operator is not responsible for the Recovery Trauma™ service, its content or any support. Apple is not a party to these Terms.

33. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when features change, when laws or regulations change, when our business or security processes change, or when app functionality changes. The date at the top shows when they were last updated.

Where a change is material, we will give appropriate notice before it takes effect — normally by email or in the app — and, where the law requires it, we will ask for your agreement.

34. Governing law

These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer resident in another country, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence, and you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts where the law allows.
