Grief is sometimes framed as a process of “letting go”, but many people find more comfort in continuing bonds — ongoing ways of staying connected to someone or something that has been lost, rather than severing the connection entirely.
Reflection prompts
- What would I like to remember, rather than let go of?
- Is there a way I could honour this person, relationship, or part of my life, even in a small way?
- What did they, or it, teach me that I still carry?
- Is there a ritual, object, place or word that helps me feel connected?
- What might I want to say, if I could say anything?
Continuing bonds can include talking to someone who has died, keeping meaningful objects, marking dates in your own way, or simply allowing memories to stay present rather than pushing them away.
You might explore these in your own words — there is no right answer, and stopping partway is completely fine.
